Callbox Installation

Step 1 - Attach to Post

Flamingo callboxes are meant to zip tie to 3/4" EMT conduit lamp posts. Insert two sufficiently large zip ties in opposite directions through the mounts on the back of the callbox, then attach at the appropriate height.
If you choose to trim the excess strap, do so straight across the strap so as not to make a point that could scratch or otherwise injure people.

Step 2 - Connect PCB Tray and Insert Antenna

Connect the battery slot to the PCB tray using the connector on the bottom left side of the PCB. Then, insert the antenna through the cable glad (you may need to remove the cable gland nut). Tighten down the cable gland nut enough to hold the antenna in place.

Step 3 - Connect Radio

Remove the battery from a Baofeng UV-5R radio and set the battery aside. Insert the PCB tray into the place where the battery was in the radio, it should lock into place as the battery did. Insert the two pin Kenwood connector into the radio. Screw the antenna into the radio and insert the battery into the battery slot (connectors facing you). Do not yet screw down the battery.

Step 4 - Connect Front Panel & Complete Installation

Connect the wires from the front panel to the PCB and then screw down the battery - stop once you feel resistance to avoid battery damage. You should see the pink LED on the front panel blink once an electrical connection is made. Once you've confirmed this, position the radio neatly inside the box and make sure the cable gland is tightened down. Finally, carefully screw the front panel on, stopping as soon as soon as you feel resistance to avoid breaking the plastic screws.

Step 5 - Test Callbox

Once installation is complete be sure to test the callbox with a quick call to Khaki. Also note where the callbox was installed so that a label with its number can be added to the map at Rangers HQ.
